Birthright Alpha Build

Hello Everyone, Happy April! As the date is now April 2nd, I've decided to write a short devlog on my process of making my first TTRPG ever and how you can help this beta phase if you decide to download.

About 2 and 1/2 months ago I decided as a somewhat vet player and slightly greener GM to make my own TTRPG. I knew I wanted to have the basis grounded in game styles and mechanics that people were familiar with but add my twist. I took some of my favorite games to play and tried to figure out how I could make them better. Not to say any games were outright bad, but there were things I would have preferred if they had been changed.

So I sit down and start to come up with a concept of wanting to do something involving science fiction. Now as a sole movie sci-fi-er (yes I know of the great books but I prefer sci-fi on screen) I knew I wanted to challenge myself in the realm. But as most TTRPGs lay in the land of medieval fantasy I didn't want it to lose its charm from that angle. So I decided to have it take place in this Victorian-like era in space.

Victorian-era in space. Now what? I left that be and then jumped into the Ancestries. I originally wrote 14 but removed one with editing. I wanted them to replace "race" in the game. And I knew I wanted them to influence but not fully determine who you are as a character. Which is where the magic classes came in. A way to "choose your identity" what makes you, you. Something not chosen by anyone else but something that was just in you since "birth".

Speaking of birth as wanting this game to be LGBTQIA+ accessible. Children are created by recipe, not by normal means. This allows any same-sex couples, even opposite sex,  single parents, or asexual people to have children who have some of their features without the hassle that humans go through. It's one of the many ideas I'm really proud of.

I also made two of the Ancestries have disabilities. The Dwellers are blind. And the Figurines have prosthetic arms and legs. This however is not a hindrance in this world of Naarth. Dwellers are some of the best hunters. And Figurines are of the most agile. But I didn't stop there. Each Ancestry allows 2 stats to be rolled with advantage and 2 stats to be rolled with disadvantage. Leaving the other 2 stats as flat rolls. This was to give a realistic aspect to the ancestries. You can't be good at everything. This doesn't mean you can't succeed with disadvantage or you won't fail at advantage but adds a great stakes aspect to your dice rolls. It also makes you think a little bit more about who you want to be, not just aesthetics but where will you put each of your dice in your stats. None of this however hinders your class choice at all!

The classes use MP or Mana for the cost of use. Your base stats that use dice rolls are for skill checks and saving throws. I would like to add in an aspect where we use the percentile die for magic maybe?

This brings me to beta testing. See below a form if you'd like to fill it out I'd greatly appreciate it. If you'd like your name added as a playtester in the corebook feel free to reach out to me! I made the form anonymous so everyone could feel comfortable giving their thoughts without judgment.

I appreciate you all and look forward to the next update, which should be final with physical copies!
